Exploring his "new playhouse" in the backyard.

He has started to say two words together - help please, oh geez (I think that is what he is saying?), more please.
Two words he loves to say are shoes and cookie.
He will bring us his socks and shoes to put on if he does not have them on his feet.
One night after his bath he asked for his shoes on, and we have some nice pictures of him wearing just his shoes. He was so excited and happy to have them on his feet for the 10 minutes before we got him ready for bed.
He threw a 35 minute fit when I was making pumpkin cookies. I had given him one as a treat, and then he wanted more - and saw them on the counter.
He hasn't been too bad with the Christmas tree, but there is one ornament that looks like a gingerbread cookie. Needless to say it had to be moved up higher on the tree because he took it off or tried to take a bite out of it several times.

He has started "stacking" things. Not perfectly.

He will sit at his table to eat his snack (for the most part).

He started saying Amen when we pray before our meals (and at bedtime). It sounds more like "me-me" than Amen, but he says it at the right time. He is so proud of himself.
While I was in California he started saying "nana" for banana.
He is saying night-night and snack as well.
This month I was gone for 5 days to California and 1 night to a retreat. He did great with daddy both times. I got a great welcome home for the 1 night trip. He was in shock when he saw me the first time.

He finally started drinking milk this month.
He has said Oh no, uh oh.
One Wednesday after service at church, I got him up from his nap and he was still tired and as we were in the rocking chair at church, someone opened the fridge. He perked up and said Oh, so clearly because he saw something he wanted inside.
His favorite thing to do is empty and fill up things. Especially a drawer within his reach.
He pointed to his mouth once when we were singing a song.
He got his first haircut with the clippers.
He is also in the process of cutting his top 2 canines.

Weighs 18.4 lbs and 30.5 inches long.
When daddy gets home he started carrying out what we use to feed the dogs.
His favorite toy is his vacuum cleaner. He gets it out to help us.
He started putting things in the toilet if he can get in the bathroom.
Loves pushing around the empty laundry basket (and emptying the full one.)
He gave kisses before, but in the last month he has started giving them more frequently and often.
When we go outside in the morning he loves to take rocks and put them in the dogs water dish.
He has started being picky with his food.

Father's Day, this was the best picture we got. He was ready for a nap.

We made a road trip down to Houston. He was an excellent traveler.
He learned how to climb up stairs. He loved going up them.
He started drinking out of a coffee mug (so he could drink his smoothies rather than me spoon feed them).
Loves anything that is frozen, ice, frozen yogurt, ice cream, popsicles.
Still walking around the furniture for the most part.
He will stand on his own for a few seconds until he realizes it.
He will take a couple of steps and then get down and crawl.
He is saying hi, bye-bye and "thank-you"

Walking along furniture, and reaching for things on his tip toes.

He has 6 teeth (4 on top and 2 on the bottom)

He will not eat meat, unless it is mixed with salsa.
He went berry picking (he sat in the stroller while I picked).
Loves ice, smoothies and popsicles.
He weighs 16.8 lbs, is 29 inches long and his head circumference 17.75 inches.

Started shuffling along furniture
Has mastered pulling himself up and getting down, so he there is almost nothing out of reach
Has discovered the toilet paper roll
Went to the zoo for the first time
Crawling (sometimes, a lot more often!) on his knees
Standing up in his crib
He loves yogurt, plain or with fruit added. He loves yogurt cheese (strained yogurt) on his bagels.
He has practiced feeding himself with a spoon.
Still sleeps well at night, naps are not as consistent. He takes at least one long nap a day.

He likes egg yolks, but they don't agree with him yet, we will wait until he is closer to 12 months and try again.

He fell down before I got the picture!

He cut his other two top teeth (with no problems at all!) and has 6 teeth total.
He drinks out of his sippy cup (if we are holding it). I started giving him water kefir and he loves it enough to drink from his cup.
He pulled up for the first time this month. He did it chasing the cats.
He is babbling da-da, ma-ma and made some other sounds, ba-ba and pa-pa.
He is starting to mimic us, but is not waving bye-bye yet - but he will clap his feet together and get excited when we tell people bye-bye.
We think he knows da-da and ma-ma go with us, but we aren't sure yet. When he is in distress he will usually start babbling ma-ma.
He is still taking naps, but one of them is shorter than the other one and he switches it up as well. Sometimes he naps 2 hours in the morning, sometimes 2 in the afternoon.
With the time change this month, he is now waking up around 7:30 in the morning.
We moved his crib down two notches. He still isn't pulling up to a sit, but we figured it was only a matter of time before he started pulling up. We did it the week he started pulling up.
He doesn't really play with his toys, he instead makes his rounds in the living room.

He wouldn't sit still in the chair for the pictures. I had to give him something to hold...

He likes picking up our weights that we have on the floor.

Loves going outside, in the mornings since the weather has been nice we go for a walk, and in the afternoon we go outside to play with the dogs
Has climbed up a "step" at church - chasing a cell phone
This month he had potatoes, chicken, cream cheese and cheese. (Along with jello, popsicles and whatever else had liquid in it when he was sick. He definitely enjoyed the extra sugar.)
Still babbling da-da, he will make another sound every now and again, but doesn't babble it. When we are outside he loves to talk/call for Rebecca and Sarah. He will sit at the window inside and call for their attention.
He had his 5th haircut.
He is starting to put weight on his legs if you hold him up. (No more trying to jump like in his jumperoo!)
If I stand him up in his crib where he can hold onto the sides, he can stand up. Still not trying to pull up.
Still sleeping well at night, but he has been going to be earlier and waking up before 7. We are trying to get him back on his regular time.
He takes two naps, could probably take a 3rd and then go to be later, but I have discovered it doesn't matter what time he goes down, he is up by 7 every morning.

He tries to get the bubbles if there are any in the bath tub.

Looking for the dogs...or watching them play.

Gets into anything and everything he can find.
Loves pulling on the cats tails.
He likes to feed himself.
He got sick the first time on New Years Day.
Babbling dada and has babbled mama twice when he wasn't happy.
Loves talking to the dogs through the sliding glass door.
Has begun getting up on his hands and knees some.
He is sleeping from around 7 to 7-7:30. We didn't phase out the 9 o'clock feed, we just stopped waking him up and he kept sleeping.
He eats three meals a day.
We tried a new sippy cup, and he has gotten more water out of it.
He hasn't tried to pull up yet, but he will put weight on his feet (sometimes).
He has taken a bath sitting up.
When I took his pictures, he flipped over to crawl towards me on the chair.

He got his two bottom teeth. He got his first one Dec 9th and his second Dec 13th.
He started babbling Da-da-da-da repeatedly just after Thanksgiving.
He is crawling. He began pulling forward on Dec 9th, and then progressively got better. He goes faster the better the prize, loves our cell phones ;)
He has begun sitting up on his own.
Has had yogurt, pumpkin and green beans this month. (He tried peaches and they seemed to cause him to spit up more).
He loves his spoon.
Still loves jumping in his jumperoo, not sure how long it will last.
Takes two naps a day, and sometimes a short nap in the evening.

At his 6 month check up he weight 13 lbs 6 ounces and was 26 inches long.
He is starting to stand on his legs if you hold him up.
Loves jumping in his jumperoo, in the last 2 weeks he enjoys his time in it rather than wanting to get out...he loves kicking his little legs in it to make it move!
Is trying to get the cats. If he is in his chair getting ready to eat and one walks by, he tries to bend over to reach them.
He is trying to crawl...by laying on his belly and kicking his legs...still working on it. Has started rolling around again, and moves pretty well around the room.
He is sitting up pretty well in a chair, he spends so much time on his tummy.
If either one of the cats or dogs comes close enough for him to touch him, he gets excited.
Eats 3 times a day about 3 ounces (sometimes more!) at a time.
He still loves his bananas and avocado.
He takes 2 to 3 naps a day at pretty consistent times.
When we travel in the car, if he is not sleeping, he is usually sitting there looking around and sucking on his two fingers.
He has had his 3rd hair cut.
Loves playing with his feet.

We had every intention of making it to a pumpkin patch...but I waited until the last weekend in October and ran out of time.

5 Months

He started solids, so far he has had avocado, bananas and cereal.
He grabs the spoon while he is eating to put it in his mouth.
He is holding his bottle when Johnny is feeding him.
He is sitting up well with support.
Rolls back and forth all the time. Sometimes he will roll completely, but normally he just rolls back and forth.
He is sticking everything in his mouth.
He loves sucking on his bottom lip.
Is reaching over his head for his toys on his play mat or his jumperoo.
Is grabbing at our faces when we are holding him.
We had to trim his hair again. This time we did it while he was laying down after a bath. We only could reach the front section and need to do some trimming BUT it is out of his eyes.
Still sleeps good at night.
For the last 3 days he has done good napping 2 long naps and then going down after his 5th feed and we wake him up for his last feed and then he goes back down to sleep for the night. (Usually he talks himself back to sleep.)

Mineola Nature Preserve

He did great on the plane ride both ways. He slept the whole time going to California and he woke up and fell back asleep a few times coming back. He did great while I was there, much better than I was expecting.

We went by Bass Pro Shops why we were in Dallas. We tried to find a hat that would fit him, but his head is too small! We ended up getting him one that he can grow in to. This one says Dear Fear Me.

We don't have an after the haircut - he was not a happy camper at the end of it...

He is sleeping 10-11 hours at night, we have had only a couple of nights that he didn't sleep good and that was during his growth spurt and when he started rolling.
He is rolling over, don't think I'll catch the complete roll as he seems to have lost interest in rolling completely vs just going tummy to back or back to tummy as he desires.
Chews on his hands, burp cloth, shirt, bib, taggie or whatever else he can get to his mouth.
He found his thumb, but normally sucks on his two fingers.
Is sitting up good in his bumbo.
Has started jumping a little in his jumperoo, likes it, but only enjoys it for about 30 minutes.
Weighed 12 lbs at 3.5 months, we think he is now between 12.5 and 13 pounds. He was measured at 25.25 inches.

Is trying to hold his bottle (Johnny says he did, I haven't seen it yet)

The previous posts are more for me, hopefully I will do a far better job of keeping the blog updated for my sake...

Time has gone by way to fast, and I realized that I didn't take many pictures in August. Here are some pictures of when people came and visited and met Johnathan for the first time.

He is rolling over completely as of today! He has never been interested in rolling onto his tummy from his back and today he tried it and was successful. By the afternoon he was rolling all over the living room floor.

Johnathan's Dedication

Johnny had the privilege of dedicating Johnathan to the Lord on Sunday. The dedication comes out of 1 Samuel chapter 1 when Hannah dedicated Samuel to the Lord.

He rolled from his tummy to his back 2 days after he was 2 months old.
He started sleeping through the night regularly right around when he was 2 months, and then he had several weeks of waking up due to being wet or moving around and his arm getting stuck in his crib. Once we put him on his tummy and got a breathable crib bumper, he started sleeping between 8 and 9 hours at night.
He was about 11 lbs 6 ounces and we measured him at around 25 inches.
He loves people and gives lots of big smiles.
He loves laying on the floor on his blanket.
He laughs a lot, especially when we do something he finds funny.

He has very good head control. When you lay him down on his tummy he looks like a turtle.
He loves being on his tummy.
He is rolling to his back from his side and his back to his side.

He slept through the night a couple of times in the last week.
He is laughing.
Loves his bath time (especially when Daddy gives it!)
Found that he had bad case of cradle cap through all of his hair.
Weighs 10 lbs 3 ounces and is 24 and a 1/4 inches.

His first real bath. It took his cord a long time to fall off.

A bouncer seat that makes noise when he kicks his feet.
He loves it, and gets so excited when it makes noise when he kicks.

On his tummy the first time. He was so mad that he rolled himself over kicking his legs.

He sleeps well at night. He has at least a 5 hour stretch, and then I feed him twice before we get up for the day.
He does not like taking naps. He is fussy because he is tired, but he fights sleep.
Every now and then he will take a good nap in the afternoon.
The first time I put him on his tummy he was so upset that he kicked his legs enough to turn himself over!
He weighs 9 lbs 5 ounces and is 23.25 inches.
He loves his activity center.
He is smiling lots.
Loves to be held on his tummy and on our shoulders.

Hospital Stay

We were in the hospital for 10 days after Johnathan was born due to pneumonia. We were ready to leave and go home when his fever spiked after being taken off of antibiotics, which resulted in several tests to determine what caused the fever to spike. We were told it could be either viral or bacterial meningitis, however after several attempts at a spinal tap, the doctor ruled out meningitis as she knew he pneumonia.

It was hard seeing him poked for a new IV several times while we were there, but I am so thankful that we were allowed to stay with him and I didn't have to pump to feed him. We were blessed by the staff of nurses that were there and so thankful when we got to go home!

Johnathan's Birthday

Johnathan Chambers Knox was born May 23, 2010 at 7:41 PM. He was 8 pounds 14 ounces and 22 inches long.

He was born by emergency c-section because his heart rate dropped when I was put on pitocin after I was transported to the hospital after 24 hours of labor.

I was transported as my water broke early in labor and my midwife wanted me to have a chance to deliver naturally with pitocin rather than have a c-section when Ifailed to progress past a 6 for several hours.

Diaper Bag and Wet Bag

I have successfully made a diaper bag, I didn't care for many in the store and found a tutorial online. I also wanted to make wet bags for my diaper bag...and looked at several tutorials, and finally just combined what I liked from several and made them. I made 2 small ones, hoping to make at least 1 larger one...they were a lot easier than I thought they were going to be. As I didn't want to do a zipper, I ended up having to look at a pretty complicated tutorial to figure out the drawstring.

The stenciling of the verse is complete...there is still an empty wall, didn't think I could add any more, still debating about what to do to make the room balanced. I know a shelf will go up on the fourth side, just not quite sure what to put up there...

square foot garden update 2

Our garden has grown a lot this last week - we had lots of rain and warm nights.

squash and cucumbers are getting big - now I have to figure out how to vine them.
tomatoes have doubled in size again.
tomatoes and peppers have flowers about to open
my parsley all has some seeds sprouting
I had to tie twine around all of my bush beans as they are getting tall and starting to fall over into other boxes (primarily only the tongue and fire but I did the rest as well)
the pole green beans are growing fast and vining well
both nasturtiums had flowers bloom
my eggplant has a bud on it about to open
my peppers have shown a lot of growth and gotten dark green
my swiss chard has started to grow and I think I am going to harvest my lettuce before it gets too hot and then plant some more green beans or radishes.
you can see our hanging tomatoes and pepper plant - the nasturtiums and basil have sprouted on top.

My apple tree has shown lots of new growth this week. I wish I had a picture of what it looked liked last week...

Our Square Foot Garden update

After and interesting March and April, my garden finally seems to be showing signs of growth (and we have gotten to eat some sugar snap peas.

In March I through that we were doing good when a lot of my seeds starting sprouting...and then we had a cold front around March 29th and April 6th where it went down to 32.

For the most part my seeds survived; I replaced a few, I made the choice to replace my tomato plants and some of my pepper plants. I wanted to make sure I had those.

In the middle of April the first pea flowers came and we got to eat a few of the sugar snap peas in our salads. Lord willing in the Fall we will have more of them.

My pole beans are starting to send out their tendrils, my basil is looking really good and growing well (even from seed), my chives have sprouted and another cilantro will sprout soon. My Eggplant looks like it is doing well.

My box of tomatoes, peppers, beans, morning glories, thyme, green onions, marigolds, nasturtium, parsley and basil.

My squash and cucumbers came up this week along with some of the beet seeds I planted with the beets that I had planted already. My lime balm is looking much better than it did and the nasturtium is continuing to grow, no flowers on it yet. My basil that I transplanted for some reason looks really poor in this box, but the seeds are popping up and looking good.

My tomatoes have gotten tall (I keep pruning the bottom branches to make it easier when I attempt to vine them. There are still pea flowers and peas forming, but I imagine the heat will be pretty bad soon, so I'll pull those in a few weeks and plant something else.

In this box I have tongue and fire, pinto beans and lima beans. I also have radishes, chamomile, cilantro, stevia and two bell pepper plants. I planted another box of green beans, dill, tongue and fire beans and chamomile.

Here is the box we had broccoli, onions spinach and swiss chard in. I pulled a lot of the broccoli (that never formed any heads). I am seeing if they will form heads in the Fall, based on research, there is a possibility. The broccoli has really shot up since the weather has been more consistent. There is Summer Savory, Montezuma red beans and a jalapeno plant in there.

This box has bell peppers, jalapeno peppers and two garden salsa plants. I have also planted Montezuma red beans (that you can see) and green beans. I planted some radishes that are starting to sprout, more Montezuma red, pinto and tongue and fire beans. I also have dill, oregano, swiss chard, parsely that I planted from seed and transplanted (which is not doing to well).

so today we decided since it looks like the weather will be good another week to go ahead and plant our tomato and pepper plants. Lord willing nothing will happen to them...

We planted:

5 Early Girl and 5 Better Boy vining tomatoes
6 jalapeno peppers, and 1 garden salsa pepper
6 bell peppers and 1 fajita bell pepper
An Eggplant
Thyme
Oregano

I planted some more seeds:

1 box of Green onion
2 more boxes of Swiss Chard (after finding this recipe for Hot Swiss Chard Artichoke Dip)
1 box of beets
1 box of radishes (where I will be planting cucumber in a few weeks)
1 box of Chamomile
2 boxes of Nasturtiums
1 box of Dill
1 box of Cilantro

Here is the garden...in progress. It had the retaining wall and the dirt in it. The dogs enjoyed it until we fenced it off...Here you can see the pole in the middle...one of these days it will be sanded and painted, and hopefully have morning glories growing up it.

Planting seeds for the first time...

Two years ago when Johnny and I first did a garden (or I guess, the first time I ever did, he has had experience with it before), we planted only plants (other than squash seeds).

We of course planted tomatoes, jalapenos, bell peppers and squash...nothing out of the ordinary. Last year we moved during planting season, so we were unable to try again, so this year I spent a lot of time researching and finding out a way we could have a productive gardening. I came across the Square Foot Gardening method by Mel and have read through his book at least twice, waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for the garden to be ready for me to start planting.

I'll be glad next year when I can start when it is time to plant and not have to wait for it to be done!

I planted radishes and carrots (8 of each) in one box, Swiss Chard, Lettuce (I am trying it from seed, praying it works!), Spinach and Snap Peas.

I planted 9 broccoli plants. Tried starting them indoors from seed, but I had a lot of difficulty due to not being at home. Hopefully I can do better when I plant them in the Fall!

I planted a box (16) white/yellow onions. I had these in the garage since November and some had sprouts, others didn't. They shot up pretty quickly. It was exciting to see - as I have never grown onions before.

I planted a box of (16) red onions. These did not sprout as well, but I had just purchased the bulbs from the store, so that could be why.

We are praying each of the broccoli plants will turn into a head of broccoli. For only $3 for 9 of them, that would be a good deal...Lord willing, we will be blessed with some fresh broccoli.

Things have gotten so crazy, that I have not even thought about posting as of late.

Johnny did his first funeral, and the Lord blessed, praise God...and he has his first wedding on Saturday. The two of us have been blessed to walk through a season with the couple he is marrying, and Lord willing He will bless the ceremony.

We are both doing well, we can't believe that time has gone as fast as it has. The Lord has been good to us, and He is continuing to prepare us, and the people that are part of our body.

I hope all of you are well...

Here is Sarah, the new addition to our family. She ran up and greeted Johnny and I one morning when I dropped him off at work in April. We couldn't bear to not keep her. I will put up a new picture of her soon...so you see how much better and healthier she looks - she was in this condition when we brought her home - I promise! Sarah and Rebecca get along famously.

We have lived here 3 months and I am finally putting the pictures up on the web. I did wait until we got our new furniture into take the pictures. Maybe one of these days I will start posting more regularly - it will be one of my goals. We really like the kitchen - it is a lot nicer to cook when you have the space to do it - and we were blessed with a brand new stove when we moved in. (Johnny likes the fact that we have carpet - and it is on foundation rather than pier and beam).

For those of you that don't know, I am not going to be teaching next year. I will be using my master's and doing Instructional Design/Content Development for a company called EdWay Online. I am blessed and I am able to work from home (most days). Johnny was ordained on June 1st...one more step on the path the Lord has placed us on. We had our first Sunday morning last week (June 15th) and it was a blessing. We know the Lord has plans, we are just not sure what they are yet.

Our New House...

For those of you that don't know, Johnny and I are moving to Longview (sooner than we planned) to plant a Calvary Chapel. We found a house this weekend - which is exciting as the people buying our house sold theirs much quicker than we anticipated (in a week --- and they did it FSBO), we think it was the Lord's way of keeping our focus on what He has planned for us, rather than our own.

The house is completely redone inside. It was built in 1962, but has new flooring, new a/c, new hot water heater, new stove, dishwasher. We are excited. If everything works out, we should be moving down there March 21. When we get there, I'll put a picture of the house up - we won't be doing near the work that we did on this past house (which I am sad we don't get to see completed!)

Over the last two years most of our vacation time has been spent fixing up our house. These are just a few of the pictures we have - and many times we didn't take a good before picture. Most of our pictures that we have taken are during the process of redoing the rooms. Eventually I will get around to putting up a picture of our house with the shutters that were put on 2 weeks ago, but that requires me to go outside and take it first! I have had many people ask me for pictures over the last few months, and I've been promising to get them up, so I hope you enjoy them!
